Mom and Dad's Valentine Party

We loved it so much last year, we did it again!

This just past weekend, we invited a few couples, two of which ended up making it, to have a dinner and chat.  We made the living room feel romantic, set up a nice table, and got our guests over.  Super ironic: this couple in the top right, she is my visiting teaching companion and he is one of our home teachers.  If you read through our one from last year, one of the couples was that same combination to us.  So funny!

It was so very fun to get to know these two couples better!  I'm fairly familiar with both the sisters, Kim and Andrea, and Kelly's our home teacher, but neither Aaron nor I had met Scott.  I had no idea that Kelly's political views were so unique, or that Scott is a total class clown.  We learned how-they-met stories, and who's having what difficulties with which kids.  Also nice, Kelly and Kim's family lines up perfectly with ours, two boys, a girl and pregnant with another girl (just opposite us) and Scott and Andrea also have four kids, two of which fall into our kids' age ranges.  We never even got to games, since we spent the entire 3 hours chatting and eating and laughing!

The menu was almost exactly the same.  We did our steak fondue (using the awesome fondue pot Aaron gave me for my birthday!), potato skins, pink fluff, a green salad, rolls and a sparkling drink.  We sent dessert home with them, three cupcakes in a jar packaged prettily (thanks to Pinterest).

We were super-lucky that Grandma B wanted some extra time with the kids.  She came just before our guests arrived and took the three of them to McDonald's - by. her. self!  Brave woman!  When they got back, near the end of our meal, she shuffled them quickly and surprisingly quietly up the stairs, jammied them, and put on a movie on the computer we left upstairs for them.  Awesome to have a group date so perfectly!

All in all, a super fun night and something we look forward to doing again.  It completely made my night, after our friends had left, when Aaron said, "I think we've made a tradition here."  This is my husband who doesn't really care for V-day and usually dislikes groups where he might have to try to be a social butterfly.  I might win him over to occasional parties yet!

Well aren't you a blogging maniac today? Yipee, fun to read lots of new stuff. This kind of thing (the Valentine dinner with friends) is RIGHT up my alley! And yes, I too have the husband that is sometimes resistant to being a social butterfly. It's so nice when they humor us once in a while!
