Birthday Boy - A Whole New Decade!

Aaron celebrated his 30th birthday earlier this month!  The kids were so excited and had fun making this surprise gift for him - "30 Sucks" with thirty suckers.  While he had his normal 4:30 phone call, we were making our way through rush-hour traffic to his workplace to surprise him.  We carried on a normal conversation until I pulled in and was parked.  Then I said a corny knock-knock joke to lure him outside.  (Only employees are allowed inside, since it's a bank call center and so much personal info is so accessible.)  He was surprised, as we intended! :)

Later that week, we made some garden stones for Grandma's garden.  She's one of those notoriously difficult people to shop for, so I tend to help the kids make personal gifts - usually a hit with Grandma.  The kids had lots of fun, but next time I'll time it better, since we let the bricks get a little too dry for pressure hand and footprints.  They had fun with the pretty stones, though.

That weekend was the three-for-one birthday party for the July birthdays.  Emily turned 8, Aaron turned 30 and Grandma was happy to join the candle-blowing-out party.

Aaron requested cake balls, but not everyone was all for that, so there was a cake as well.  The cake balls were SO yummy - red velvet with cream cheese frosting for the mix, dipped in chocolate and green-tinted candy melts.  I'm looking forward to making similar ones - white on white - for Emily and her brother's baptism this weekend!

Happy Birthday!!

FUN! Thanks for the updates. I like your idea for handmade gifts... as you may know I'm always on the search for those! And yummmmm I love cake balls. Too bad they are a bit time-consuming.

I bet Grandma loves those handmade gifts! You'll have to send us your ideas for gifts as MaJo is just as hard to shop for!
Tell all the birthday people we said hello and Happy Birthday! Can't believe Emily and Michael are old enough to get baptized!
