Long and Mauthe Lakes (One Camping Trip)

The last week of July we had our second successful camping event of this summer.  We drove up to two lakes near eachother, Long Lake and Mauthe Lake.  The day we arrived, we took a walk around park of Mauthe Lake.  Such a beautiful day!

Aaron stopped the kids to look at some local wildlife.

See him?  (I mean, is the neon arrow enough?)

The kids had fun on this little zipline-like unit of the playground at the lake.  Love that all of them are enthralled by the roller above their heads!  The lilypad background is one I took of the other lake (Long) the next day.

I wanted to show how big and perfect-for-us our new tent is.  Aaron, the baby and I sleep on this end of the tent...

...and the other three kids sleep over there, with plenty of space between.  Bedtime went much smoother this time with the addition of the computer and a Disney movie!

One of my favorite parts was making (and subsequently relishing) Dutch oven dump cake.  Yumm!

I tried to take a slow-er exposer picture, using my timer, of all of us.  Lizzie slumped back in her chair behind Evie; Cole was in the carseat next to Aaron, so they're less visible, but it was fun to try.

In the morning, we took a walk around a part of Long Lake.  There were several fishermen (and women and children) on a pier, so we stopped to watch them cast and reel.  One woman who was there with her several kids offered to let Evie try a pole for a little bit.  Evie proudly caught and released a bluegill and a {very small} large-mouth bass.  She thought it was pretty neat to hold the fish just after Aaron de-hooked them and toss it back herself.  Lizzie was green with envy, but the owners of the rod were getting antsy, so we returned it.  Myself, I could do without the whole thing, (poor worm...ew! worm...poor fishy...ew! fishy...boring sitting) but the girls are determined to go fishing with Aaron again sometime.

We returned to break camp and grab a snack, then went back to Long Lake for some swimming.  I loved this humungous umbrella someone had at the beach.  Awesome!  All the kids enjoyed their moments of swimming or, in Cole's case, sunning.

Another great couple of days with the family.  Sadly, that may be all we get in this summer, with school looming in just two weeks and Aaron having just begun another home renovation project.  Looking forward to next summer and all the fun stuff we'll do before then!
